Glendower is an attractive 17th Century Cornish cottage located in the village of Gunwalloe on the Lizard Peninsular, Cornwall. Ian and Amanda Turner moved to Cornwall from London and spent two years turning Glendower into a family home and a successful bed and breakfast business that opened in the spring of 2006. Since then the business has won a prestigious 4 Star Silver award from The English Tourist Board for two years running.

Gunwalloe is approximately 5 miles from the historic town of Helston and is nestled on the coast between Porthleven and Mullion. The village boasts a very popular award winning pub, The Halzephron Inn, which is an easy 10 minutes stroll away. The house sits in an elevated position with far reaching views over farmland and the coastal cliffs above Gunwalloe Fishing Cove. This lovely stretch of beach runs for 3 miles to Porthleven and passes Loe Pool, a fresh water lake bordered by the woodlands of the Penrose Estate. The closest sandy beach for safe bathing and surfing is Gunwalloe Church Cove, (approximately 1.5 miles away) with its beautiful 13th Century church.

the bedrooms

Glendower has a stylish, light contemporary feel with Farrow and Ball paintwork, designer fabrics and a good mix of old and modern complemented with Cornish art.

Ian and Amanda have a love of the sea and this is mirrored in their rooms with cool blues, greens and whites. Each room has a different feel. One has pale blue wooden floorboards, white walls and with a careful use of fabrics and accessories, creates a beach hut feel. The other is cosier with painted half panelled walls, rugs and the romance of a beautiful Regent bedstead. Both beds have good quality mattresses with crisp cotton bed linen.

The en suite wet rooms have white suites comprising shower, basin and toilet with Travertine mosaic tiled floors.

Although the rooms are attached to the main house they are both self contained which means guests can have total privacy and come and go as they please.

breakfast room

Breakfasts are served in the Conservatory which overlooks the cottage garden with beautiful views of farmland towards the sea. Amanda tries to source her ingredients locally and almost everything she serves is from Cornwall or produced at Glendower. The Garden has an abundance of fruit trees and vegetables are grown in the raised beds and greenhouse.

Bread and biscuits are homemade.

garden

Ian is a Head Gardener and this is very much in evidence at Glendower. Visitors are greeted by a path that snakes its way up a neat cottage style garden. Vegetables grown in the raised beds are so well tended they look as if they are part of the decorative scheme. To the rear the garden has a more Mediterranean feel with a raised decked area with tables and chairs, ideal for alfresco breakfasts or to enjoy a glass of wine.
